What is a Horse Training Camp with John Moore?

These camps, conducted by clinician John Moore and his assistants, are an extended version of the two day seminars and are designed to give riders the information and tools necessary for achieving their goals with their horses in a live-in environment.

Often, as horse owners we are confronted with issues and problems that seem insurmountable. We’ve tried all the traditional methods for attaining success, but are often left wondering “... is it the horse or is it me?” It’s sometimes best to take a step back and look at how we are being perceived by the horses we are trying to train. Sometimes we get so caught up in the mechanical administration of the aids that we forget that our training method is supposed to be applied with a “feel” for the living creatures we are training, with the ultimate goal being communication. This feel should be rooted in an understanding of the horse – his mind and body as well as how he learns. A detailed look into the mind and instincts of the horse can give us a tremendous insight into what motivates these creatures and can shed light on how to best form a partnership with these animals as a prerequisite to attaining our goals.

At the training camps we have an extended length of time beyond the usual two day seminar that allows us to explore in greater depth what makes horses “tick”, then apply this knowledge to attaining the specific goals of each rider. Ground work is a very big part of the foundation we build with each horse, and the ground school program is designed to transition smoothly into the riding program. Many of the horses attending these camps have been subjected to various techniques intended to bring the horse under control or to develop certain skills. But often these techniques have been improperly administered or simply don’t work with every horse or in every situation. At the camp you will learn a variety of techniques, based on equine behavior, designed to solve problems and get results. Many of these techniques are ancient in origin, but are now being rediscovered by the horse world and are leading to amazing outcomes.

The most enjoyable part of the camps is the productive time spent with your horse and the good times enjoyed with old and new friends who love horses as much as you do.
